3 Misconceptions About Adulting

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about what it means to be an adult. Though, the dictionary defines it as “a person who is fully grown or developed” there are many ways to interpret this. Here are 3 of the biggest misconceptions I’ve heard.

7 Things I Learned on my 7 Day Cruise

1. Your family can be frustrating

There were times that I began getting so frustrated with my mom and grandma. There were many times I decided to venture out on my own because they just wanted to sleep. But, then I started putting myself in their shoes and realizing that we have fun in our own respective ways. My kind of fun is venturing out and exploring new things. Their kind of fun is napping by the pool and listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean.

I Love my Melanin Because…

It is a reminder that the sun just can’t get enough of me.

The light-skin vs. dark-skin battle has made it’s way into my Instagram explore page again and I’m tired of it. Sometimes, embracing my God-given skin tone feels like a political statement. I remember being in middle school and reading The Skin I’m in by Sharon G. Flake. The whole time I was thinking, “Finally, someone who gets it.”

Exploring the City: Downtown West Palm

Here’s another day spent with the Summer Writing Club. It was quite the adventure. Downtown West Palm Beach, aka City Place, is pretty huge. We spent a chunk of our day there and we still only hit a little bit of the city. I’m used to City Place at night, but during the day it’s actually pretty inviting.

We met with a publisher and she gave out a bunch of cool books. I posted about them on Rae’s Reads and Reviews, so check that out if you’re interested.

I brought the camera along again and I took soooo many pictures. Here’s a few.

Exploring the City: Downtown Lake Worth

One of my teachers from high school hosts a writing workshop over the summer where he shows students around the city and helps them catch that creative bug. This was the first year I actually had a chance to participate.

We walked around Downtown Lake Worth, exploring local shops and talking to some of the owners. We went to an art gallery, an art shop, a book store, and a few other places to write about what we saw. It was a lot of fun. I brought the camera along with me on the journey.

What to Expect

Welcome to my little corner of the internet.

Maybe you know me in real life, or maybe you don’t. Either way, you’ve made it to Life’s Commute. Now, here’s the kind of content you can expect on this little slice of the World Wide Web.

Explorations/Discussions

The idea for this blog originally started with me having so many thoughts, but nowhere to put them. I wanted to start conversations about things we usually don’t say out loud.

I love writing essays. I know, that’s not something you hear often, but it’s true. Exploring new topics is one of my favorite pastimes and it makes no sense for me to keep this writing to myself.

These aren’t just going to be essays, though. I want to know what you have to say about these topics, hence the “discussions” part. These essays are meant to spark conversation and leave you with something to think about throughout your day.

Commuter Chronicles

Commuter is defined as “a person who travels some distance to work on a regular basis.”

I’ve been commuting to and from school almost daily for nearly a year now. Over the past year, I’ve learned so many tips and tricks that could help make your own commute easier.

I will also be including a few travel adventures there, too.

Now it’s your turn to tell me what you expect!
